The Most Instagrammable Eats in Paris

This blog post, written by me, was originally featured on Trip101.

Paris: city of light, love, and most importantly, food. A trip to the French capital just wouldn’t be complete without inundating your social news feeds with perfectly framed photos of French food. Let’s take a culinary journey around the arrondissements and salivate over these scrumptious snapshots!

1. Macarons

This meringue-based confection embodies the spirit of Paris with it’s colour, drama and association with luxury. Anyone who is anyone has heard of Pierre Hermé and Ladurée, these macaron boutiques are opulent and offer many Instagram-worthy shots. Although for real Parisian-immersion you might want to try a macaron making class in Paris. Situated in a sun-drenched apartment in the chic 17th district, you can learn how to make macarons yourself, whilst taking photos to make even Parisians envious. All of this served with a glass of champagne. Oh la la!

2. Galettes

The savoury alternative to the crepe may have been concocted in Brittany, but you should definitely not miss out on a taste of this French delight in Paris. For an authentic experience, head into the bourgeois Parisian suburb of Saint Germain en Laye and try out Crêperie Moulerie Larcher. Just make sure you get a bowl (yes bowl!) of Brittany cider to go with it- it is the perfect accompaniment.

3. Falafels

Although this middle-eastern treat may not scream “Parisian”, the capital is actually home to several critically-acclaimed restaurants that feature falafel at their forefront. In the number one spot is L’As du Fallafel, in the trendy Marais district of Paris. Writing in The New York Times travel section, Mark Bittman asserts that “this is the falafel destination in Paris, indeed in Europe.” Fans of falafel will definitely want this in their feed…and mouths!

4. Hot Chocolate

Not all hot chocolate was created equal. Parisians know how to put the emphasis on chocolat in their chocolat chaud. No instant mixes, no water, just copious amounts of cocoa. For the best melt-in-your-mouth moment to share with your instagram followers head over to Café Angelina, renowned for their rich hot chocolate and stylish interiors.

5. Brunch

This rather English eating hour has been adopted into la vie parisienne with fervour. A colourful spread of French food is certain to liven-up your Instagram feed. For a more rustic feel, free from tourists, head to the 20th district of Paris. Liberté Ménilmontant gives off more than just a whiff of hipster, but their brunch is a great way to fill up your feed… and stomachs!
